Plans to raise expenses fees in Armenia to 30% can have
damaging consequences for the Armenian community, as it will severely limit the
probability of students to gain access to higher education. Tuition fees have
been increased by 15% on average in-may of many public and private
universities. This is disproportionate to the socio-economic development of the
country, provided the students have to pay US dollar 1, 048 in college tuition
per year, when minor wages are only about $ 260 per month.
Armenian graduates are already severely damaged by the
monetary crisis and high unemployment, with students facing a grim picture with
their future. European students are incredibly concerned about recent events in
Armenia and supported the struggle of the Armenian National College student
Association, or ANSA against this policy. On 21 years old June, the European
Students' Union sent a notification to support the ANSA all key stakeholders in
neuro-scientific higher education in Armenia.
The union is convinced that education is a prerequisite for
building a society based on knowledge, where the role of higher education is
essential in the development of the civil society and a better economy and
providing equal opportunities for all. The dangerous of education results in
lower levels of unemployment, better quality of health, lower criminal offense
rates, more public contribution and higher tax earnings.
"Increasing tuition prevents individuals from access to
advanced schooling, thereby education an allowance of the elite and the ones
who can afford to pay fees. In the economical situation of Armenia, where the
amount of the fees exceeds the average salary further, the effects of rising
fees are dangerous both for the and society as a whole, "the letter said.
More than 10, 1000 National Unions of Pupils in Europe also
have sent out their letters of support to ANSA show their solidarity against
increased college tuition fees in Armenia. Found in recent weeks, the Armenian
Students Association is also actively organizing public proceedings and
meetings with more than 10 local college student unions, and these gatherings
have attracted more than 1, 000 students.
ANSA has made the official declaration on this issue and
distribute it to the key stakeholders in Armenia, the Council of Europe and the
Organization for Secureness and Cooperation in The european countries office in
Yerevan office of the European Unification and Armenia, and the ombudsman in
Armenia, this statement He was directed and rectors of Armenian universities
who have used the choice to raise expenses fees, as well as rectors of other
schools in the country.
